About Day Trips from Kyoto
This site sets the day trips and tours that leave Kyoto next to each other: Nara with or without Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama, Uji and its matcha, Hiroshima and Miyajima by Shinkansen, the Amanohashidate coast and the Ine boathouses, Katsuo-ji, Osaka and Kobe, and private days with a car. Next to them it lays out the trips you can make on your own by train or bus, from Uji on a 240 yen JR ticket to Nara Park, which is free to walk. We compare tour listings, the temples', castles' and railways' own information and recent traveler feedback. We do not operate or personally conduct these tours. The full line-up sits in the day trips from Kyoto catalog.
Why It Exists
Every day tour from Kyoto looks alike in a search result: a coach from Kyoto Station, a famous name, a price somewhere between $55 and $130. The listings rarely put the details that change your day in one place. How many of the hours are spent on the road or the Shinkansen? Is the temple entry, the boat or the cable car in the price, and is lunch? Does the guide ride with you or meet you at the far end? And would a 720 yen JR ticket to Nara get you there just as well?
Those are the columns of the comparison table here, read off each listing and the operator's own page.
Where the Figures Come From
Tour prices, ratings, review counts and inclusions come from the listing on the platform that sells each tour. Meeting points and timings come from the listing and, where it is more precise, from the operator's own information. Entrance fees, opening hours and closures come from each temple, shrine, castle or museum's official site. Train times and fares come from JR West, Kintetsu, Keihan, Eizan Railway and Nankai, with japan-guide.com as a second source. Where a fare could not be read on an official page, the site does not print it.
When two sources disagree, the page shows both and says which one it follows.
What You Will Not Find
There is no invented tour guide or travel writer behind these pages, and no claim that anyone from the site rode these coaches. Reviews shown are short excerpts from four and five star platform reviews. A complaint that comes up often, such as a long day on the coach or a crowded Nara afternoon, is written into the comparison with a way around it.
How the Site Is Paid For
The booking buttons are affiliate links to GetYourGuide and Viator. If you book through one, the platform pays a commission and your price does not change. The free trips by train earn the site nothing, and they are on the site anyway.
No operator pays for a place, a badge or the pick. The details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
